We welcome candidates working in genre-fiction, including science fiction, fantasy, and young adult, as well as those with experience in other prose forms, such as creative nonfiction, science and nature writing, and journalism. We seek candidates who can broaden the English department’s curricular diversity, including candidates with artistic and pedagogical interests in gender, race, and ethnicity. The position is set to begin on July 1, 2023. The teaching requirement will be five courses per year (divided 3:2 or 2:3) and will include courses at all levels of the curriculum. Additional responsibilities will include contributions to the life of the English department and the College (including advising students, directing honors projects, and participating in faculty governance). Interested new hires will be welcome to affiliate with Kenyon’s interdisciplinary programs, which include African Diaspora Studies, Asian and Middle East Studies, Environmental Studies, Latino/a Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. Evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level is required. Candidates should hold an MFA or PhD in creative writing and have a significant record of publication, preferably one book published or under contract.  A completed application will include 1) a cover letter detailing writing interests and accomplishments, teaching experience, and teaching philosophy with emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and equity; 2) a Curriculum Vitae. Candidates who advance to the next stage of the search will be asked to provide a writing sample, an unofficial transcript, and letters of reference. All application materials must be submitted electronically through Kenyon’s website at http://careers.kenyon.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled; to ensure full consideration, candidates should submit materials by November 1. Applications will be acknowledged by automatic response. Preliminary interviews will be held by Zoom or Google Meet with on-campus interviews to follow.
