Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, seeks to fill a Tenure-Track position (open rank) beginning July 2023.  A Ph.D. in computer science or closely related discipline is required, as well as prior teaching experience at a U.S. college or university.

Kenyon is seeking to build off strengths in applied computation already existing among our faculty and in our curriculum to begin an interdisciplinary program that will weave together computer science with applications across the arts and sciences. Starting such a program was a key component of Kenyon’s most recent strategic plan. Many details of the nature and character of the program will be established over the next few years, under the guidance of the founding director; a core value essential to the program is a commitment to broad accessibility and participation from students and faculty, across boundaries of both academic discipline as well as racial, gender, socio-economic, and other categories. Evidence of interest in and commitment to both interdisciplinary work and valuing inclusion will be vital to a successful application.

Kenyon has a strong commitment to student-centered learning.  Thus, we will be particularly interested in candidates with experience in active learning techniques and/or demonstrated interest in pedagogical innovation. We have an active, Kenyon-funded summer research program, so the ability and willingness to include undergraduates in research is also a plus. The typical teaching load is five courses per year.  Kenyon faculty members are expected to be excellent teachers who maintain strong research programs, and there are funds available to support travel and faculty development.

Kenyon College, located on an idyllic campus in rural central Ohio, is ranked in the top tier of national liberal arts colleges and has a reputation for outstanding teaching and scholarship.  We have a national and international student body of nearly 2000 students. The Program in Computing will be housed in a spacious and well-equipped building. The founding director will be the first faculty member whose primary appointment is to the Program in Computing, and we anticipate additional hires in the coming few years. The founding director will be supported by a diverse group of faculty from across the college with interests in computation.

Startup funds will be available, depending on the research needs of the individual.  Kenyon offers competitive salaries and a generous benefits package.

  • Statement describing the applicant’s research accomplishments and future research directions;

Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and are commensurate with experience. There are a number of faculty development opportunities (e.g. travel, research funds, etc.) for which appointees are eligible.
