Chalmers Library, part of Library and Information Services (LBIS), a division of Kenyon College seeks a creative and innovative individual to serve in the position of Data Services Librarian. 

The Data Services Librarian will be an integral role in the Research and Instruction department of the Library, collaborating with the other instruction librarians on information literacy, data literacy, and digital humanities in regard to curricular and research needs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to improve the library’s services by assisting those working with qualitative and quantitative data. 

This position will support academic departments in primarily the social sciences, mathematics & statistics, and a new interdisciplinary computer studies program. Kenyon College recently opened a new library that provides expanded opportunities for our research and instruction services. The library has experimental classrooms, exhibit space, and digitization and a/v facilities. Kenyon is creating a place that focuses on student success by incorporating several campus partners with the LBIS team: Career Development Office,  Academic Advising, Writing Center, Student Accessibility, and Support Services. LBIS is a merged library, institutional research, and IT division.

Primary responsibilities for this position include: 

  • Provide academic department liaison support for departments in the social sciences, math and statistics, and interdisciplinary computing. 
  • Partner with faculty and librarians to plan and deliver curriculum-integrated data and information literacy instruction, digital scholarship, and assess student learning.
  • Serve as a resource for students, faculty, and librarians seeking and working with traditional data resources and software. 
  • Engage and support the campus with emerging digital scholarship trends and technologies; as they relate to data literacy, data copyright, data visualization, and data repositories. 
  • Plan and design curriculum for teaching a for-credit data literacy course and campus workshops.

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Promote and support library services and key resources with a focus on data and statistics. 
  • Partner with other librarians or faculty to assist with classes with data and statistics needs.
  • Collaborate to develop, prepare, and deliver outreach programs and workshops
  • Participate in divisional, college, and consortial initiatives and committees
  • Continue to expand professional and technical knowledge by participating in professional development opportunities; which may include membership in professional societies, training, and workshops.

Education, skills, and abilities 

  • Master’s degree in Library or Information Science for an ALA-accredited program, or relevant degree with teaching or library instruction experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of data and statistical resources.
  • Advanced knowledge of the scholarly research process and bibliographic databases.
  • Effective teaching and presentation skills, with demonstrated knowledge of information literacy pedagogy from the ACRL Framework on Information Literacy.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative analysis, and data visualization tools.
  • Familiarity with digital scholarship trends and technologies.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in higher education teaching, learning, and research.
  • Commitment to user-focused services.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and writing skills.

Minimum starting salary: $60,000. Will be commensurate based on experience.
