Kenyon College is seeking applications for a Classroom Technology Specialist in the Library and Information Services division.

About Us:

Kenyon College, one of the nation’s finest liberal arts colleges, is a small school where academic excellence and a strong sense of community go hand in hand. Kenyon’s beautiful hilltop campus is located in Gambier, OH, 45 miles northeast of Columbus, OH. Kenyon enrolls 1700 undergraduate students, all of whom live on campus the entire time they are students at Kenyon.

The Information Technology staff are an inclusive group committed to ensuring all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other campus partners have a safe, productive, enjoyable, and meaningful experience with college technology. We provide creative solutions, responsive services, and reliable secure access to an enabling infrastructure. Information Technology is a part of the Library and Information Services division (LBIS), an encouraging environment where we continue to grow, learn, and pursue our craft. We are respectful of all, kind, friendly, helpful, and enjoy a sense of humor--something we find essential to our success. Work/life balance is valued here: we love our work but understand that there’s more to life! Professional development and diversity are also valued here: we continually learn new skills, grow in our understanding of the world around us, and explore new technologies.

About the Position:

The person in this position reports to the Director of Academic Technologies and will interact regularly with many departments and individual faculty members, collaborating extensively with other members of the Information Technology team. The Classroom Technology Specialist supports Kenyon’s many technologically equipped classrooms, as well as many meeting rooms, study spaces, where the core teaching mission of the college takes place.

If you are interested in a breadth of responsibilities, rarely repeating the same day twice, and working with diverse clients, you will like this position. The person in this position will receive a wide range of assignments engaging with the campus community and will perform duties that include the design, implementation, and maintenance of academic classroom technologies (projectors, displays, computers, media players, audio systems, video conference systems, as well as control systems to make the devices interact seamlessly) in support of the teaching and learning mission of the College.

Success Factors:

While no one candidate will likely possess them all, a successful candidate will bring many of the following qualifications, experiences, and skills: experience with classroom audio visual technology, especially with modern programmable digital control systems such as Extron or Crestron, and technical troubleshooting skills. More details on specific skills can be found in the job description.

We are also looking for someone with analytical and troubleshooting experience, effective communication skills, experience working with diverse communities, project management skills, and an ability to meet deadlines.

Minimum Requirements:

We value both education and experience. A successful candidate should be comfortable with technology, is curious, and loves to learn. These are the minimum requirements for a successful candidate:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a closely related technology field. An equivalent combination of directly related experience and education is also welcome.
  • Experience with audio-visual control systems. (Kenyon uses Extron control systems and training specific to the Extron platform will be provided.)

Working Conditions:

Kenyon is an employer that understands the complexity of modern life. Our IT staff work flexible hours and function well in a hybrid environment. Some of us work fully remote, others work fully on campus, and you can find any combination in between. We use multiple communication tools to stay in touch and collaborate regardless of geography, though we also enjoy each other’s company. Clearly much of the work in supporting classroom technology has to happen in the classroom itself, but modern control systems can be managed remotely. It is also true that work in the Your work/life requirements are likely to be accommodated within our environment--just ask!

Compensation and Benefits:

Salaries at Kenyon are competitive and commensurate with experience. In addition to an attractive salary, Kenyon offers benefits for employees and their family members. Children of employees are eligible for 100% tuition waivers at Kenyon, and through the Great Lakes Colleges Association, children of employees are eligible for 85% tuition waivers at fifteen other of the nation's finest liberal arts colleges.

We also offer health and dental insurance, TIAA retirement, and many other benefits, including provisions for a spouse, families, and domestic partners. Details about benefits as well as conditions of employment are described more fully in our Staff Handbook.
