Kenyon College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in the Studio Art Department, to begin fall of 2021.

Teaching load will be a total of five courses for the year, with four courses in the general area of Digital Design, as well as one traditional foundational course in drawing or painting. The digital design courses should include technical as well as conceptual components, with projects that respond to our current visual culture and/or socially-engaged awareness. Each semester, at least one course will be at the beginning level, and one intermediate.

A knowledge of design technologies is essential. Within a liberal arts environment in a studio art department, the emphasis will be on speculative design, design-art hybrids, and the engagement of community in the process of design production. The ideal candidate will bring a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual conversations in art and design. Courses may incorporate a variety of graphic design and multimedia techniques and theories, but should develop a diverse range of approaches and practices that can be used to build new frameworks for political, social, environmental, and/or anti-racist/-sexist/-gendered discourse.

Applicants must demonstrate strong teaching skills, with teaching experience at the college level required. MFA and exhibition record required. Knowledge of art history and current issues in contemporary theory is expected.

Cover letter should discuss teaching experience, with a list of potential courses and brief descriptions, and information on ways that issues and practices related to diversity, inclusion, and equity have been or will be included in teaching and advising.
