Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor in EthnomusicologyKenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Instructor of Ethnomusicology beginning in July 2020.
The departments of Music and Anthropology at Kenyon College invite applications for a joint interdisciplinary one-year visiting position at the assistant professor or instructor level in ethnomusicology. The candidate’s primary appointment will be in the Music Department, where they will teach a seminar in ethnomusicology as well as another course in an area of specialty. In addition, they must be able to teach an Introduction to Cultural Anthropology course. An ability to teach gamelan ensemble (Javanese or Sundanese) or Korean percussion ensemble is desired but not required. Other ensemble opportunities are possible, especially if the candidate has their own set of instruments. Teaching responsibilities consist of five courses per year. A Ph.D. in ethnomusicology is preferred, though ABD status is also acceptable. A master’s degree or significant course work in anthropology is a plus. Applicants must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching, with evidence of support for Kenyon’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
