Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Art: Painting and Drawing
Kenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a visiting position in the Department of Art at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2020. The successful candidate will be an artist for whom painting and drawing are a major component of their artistic focus. This position requires competence in a wide range of contemporary and historical processes and concepts. Knowledge of art history and current issues in contemporary art theory and criticism is expected. The ideal candidate will contribute to the diversity of Kenyon College by bringing a perspective, way of thinking, and/or a unique set of experiences that expand the intellectual and cultural conversations in studio art. Candidates should include a statement of teaching philosophy and address their experience teaching diverse student populations and developing an inclusive classroom environment.
Responsibilities include teaching five courses per year on all levels, possibly including one cross-media advanced seminar. Applicants must demonstrate strong teaching skills, with teaching experience at the college level expected. MFA and a high level of professional artistic activity required.
The studio section of the Art and Art History Department includes 6.0 FTE and is housed in a well-appointed new building, Horvitz Hall. Kenyon College is a highly selective, independent, highly ranked liberal arts college of 1700 students located in the beautiful village of Gambier, 45 miles northeast of Columbus, Ohio.
