Kenyon College, a national liberal arts college an hour northeast of Columbus, Ohio, seeks a graphic designer to join the Office of Communications. As a key member of an award-winning creative team, the graphic designer visually tells the story of Kenyon, its worldwide network of alumni, and the 1,800 curious minds who call the College home.
The graphic designer produces work that reaches all audiences, including prospective and current students, alumni, parents, fundraising prospects and community members. The graphic designer handles a varied portfolio that includes brochures, posters, postcards, booklets, invitations, newsletters, proposals, promotional items and signage as well as graphics for social media, email and digital signage.
Designing for these different audiences, the graphic designer’s challenge is to tell Kenyon stories in a fresh and relevant way, all while maintaining the personality of Kenyon’s brand. Now that the College is preparing to launch an expanded visual identity system, the graphic designer will have the chance to impart a lasting vision for Kenyon.
The graphic designer takes a leading role in managing assigned projects, working directly with colleagues across campus, coordinating with print vendors, and taking responsibility for projects from conception through completion. Additionally, the graphic designer manages creative assets, including a photography collection cataloged in Extensis Portfolio.
The graphic designer reports to the director of campus communications /design director and works closely with the creative and marketing director.
A bachelor’s degree in design, art, communications, marketing or a related field; at least three years of professional, full-time design experience; a strong and varied design portfolio that showcases superior layout and typographic skills and an ability to tell a story visually; strong project management skills; an ability to multitask and adhere to production schedules; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud software, with advanced knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator; a thorough understanding of offset and digital printing technologies; and an ability to follow a style guide and stay on brand. Proficiency in at least one additional area (including but not limited to illustration and photography) is a plus.
Applicants should submit a digital portfolio with at least ten design samples showing range and flexibility, accompanied by a cover letter and resume.
