Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Financial Aid Data Specialist. The Financial Aid Data Specialist is a member of the Kenyon College Office of Financial Aid staff and reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits, working 35 hours per week. The hourly rate of pay is $13.84.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:Maintains and monitors computerized student financial aid data; enters information and generates correspondence; creates and runs reports; provides service to students, staff and the public in-person, via telephone and via email; provides clerical support to the Office of Financial Aid; performs related work as required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1. Oversees daily technical processes of the office, managing the import and export of financial aid data to and from campus systems and external agencies (including federal and state governments, the College Board and loan servicers).2. Monitors the interface between the admission and financial aid systems to ensure that key identifiers match. Contacts applicants when the SSN is missing or incorrect and corrects both systems. Checks for duplicate records and corrects files.3. Serves as primary advisor for all international students on the financial aid application process. Reviews international application materials for completeness and accuracy. Performs data entry to calculate financial need and updates appropriate databases.4. Keeps record of applications with special conditions, non-custodial parent applications, tuition/outside awards and selective service registrations. Directs special conditions that warrant follow-up to the assigned counselor. Checks for non-custodial waiver information and updates the financial aid system with information on calculated contributions from non-custodial parents. 5. Maintains the endowed scholarships database. Adds new scholarships, updates students, and checks for student over-awards. 6. Assists in the verification process by reviewing required documentation for accuracy and completeness. Updates the verification worksheet, reviews tax transcripts, updates the financial aid system and provides the completed file to the assigned counselor. Contacts the student/family if items are missing or incomplete.7. Provides general counseling to financial aid recipients and applicants using knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid policies and regulations.8. Serves as backup for the office assistant- answers phones, greets students and families, assists the directors as needed.9. Maintains written policies and procedures for all job functions and new assignments.10. Works actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. 11. Provides flexible, responsive and high quality service to all, be they students, community, or staff, and continuously assess processes and procedures and revise accordingly.12. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Financial Aid Data Specialist will have three to five years of professional office experience, preferably in a higher education setting. Candidate must have an appreciation for the value of a residential, liberal arts education and should possess energy and enthusiasm for working with undergraduate students. The successful candidate will also possess strong skills in organizational management, task completion and have excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite, Google products and Financial Aid Management Systems is highly desirable. Ability to lift and carry 30 lbs. unassisted.
