Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Plumber, 2nd shift. Reporting to the Manager of Building Trades, the candidate will apply the generally accepted techniques, practices and procedures of the plumber’s trade. This includes performing plumbing system inspections, installations, maintenance, repair and/or renovation of underground and building piping, fittings, equipment and controls to insure that all systems operate properly. Must be able to read and interpret drawings, prints, schematics, manuals, etc. to determine work requirements. Must be able to take field measurements, prepare sketches for fabrication, and prepare project material lists when needed. Must clean and open clogged drains, sewer lines, storm drains, etc. as needed. Be able to inspect building facilities and equipment to ascertain required repairs and report any discrepancies and recommendations to supervisor, if unable to correct the problem. The majority of daily work is drain cleaning and repairs. Drain cleaning includes but is not limited to 4,6,8 inch main sewers, sink drains, shower drains, etc. Repair work would include but is not limited to commercial/residential sink faucets, shower valves, mixing valves, water heaters, etc. Act as group leader when designated to do so by supervisor. Perform such other duties as may be assigned in emergencies. The schedule for this full-time position is Tuesday - Saturday, 4:00 pm - 12:30 am, with a 1/2 hour lunch. The hourly rate of pay is $23.18/hour including a night premium*
*This position is on a 5 year step wage system. In 5 years, this position will hit the cap wage for tradesmen. The current cap wage is $30.45/hour.*
Minimum qualifications include: High School graduate or GED with good reading, math skills and mechanical aptitude. Must be able to comprehend and follow verbal and written instruction and be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Would prefer a candidate with at least 8 years’ experience in the plumbing trade, at least four of which have been at the journeyman level or be a graduate of a formal and recognized apprentice program and have two years’ experience at the journeyman level. Backflow and gas certifications are a plus. Must have a current valid driver’s license and ability to operate a standard shift vehicle. Must have knowledge and experience operating hand and power tools of the trade and put into practice the safe use and operation, thereof. Ability to work at high elevations using scaffolding or ladders. Must be capable of lifting and carrying heavy loads approximately 50 pounds.
