Tenure Track Assistant Professor of ChemistryKenyon College, a highly selective, nationally ranked liberal arts college in central Ohio, invites applications for a Tenure Track position in Chemistry at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2018. The Chemistry Department seeks candidates with expertise in inorganic and/or analytical chemistry, a commitment to teaching excellence, and plans for establishing an active research program. The Department values familiarity with best practices in teaching and the ability to mentor undergraduate research students. A Ph.D. in Chemistry is required and post-doctoral experience is preferred.Kenyon College, located on an idyllic campus in rural central Ohio, is ranked in the top tier of national liberal arts colleges and has a reputation for outstanding teaching and scholarship. We have a student body of approximately 1700 students. The Chemistry Department hosts outstanding laboratories and instrumentation for research and teaching. Startup funding is offered, as is annual financial support for travel and faculty development. Chemistry faculty participate in interdisciplinary programs including Neuroscience, Environmental Studies, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Scientific Computing. The typical teaching load is five courses per year, and for this position could include introductory and inorganic chemistry, instrumental analysis, and advanced laboratories and seminars. Our faculty enjoy regular one-on-one advising/mentoring with pre-major and major students from diverse populations regarding academic adjustment, curricular exploration, and other academic decisions.The application should address, in the cover letter and in other documents, why teaching at Kenyon is a good fit for the candidate, how their research will succeed in the context of a liberal arts college, and how they will promote a culturally and intellectually diverse and inclusive educational environment.
